Aigrette Brooch

This design draws on the aigrettes of the Ottoman court.

An aigrette was an official emblem of sovereignty, belonging to the state treasury rather than to a single sultan, and worn most often at state ceremonies. It also appeared on grand viziers, senior officials, members of the dynasty and women of the palace. Precious stones represented worldly power, while feathers pointed to its divine source: celestial legitimacy, warrior spirit and rule. Worn by both women and men, the aigrette had a natural place in court culture centuries before the language of genderless jewellery. D’Evin retains its commanding composition while transforming a jewel once worn on the head into a brooch for contemporary life.
