The Kroisos Sun Disc is a symbol of sovereignty and the eternal cycle. One of the refined forms associated with the Lydian world of ancient Anatolia, its radiating structure evokes the sun, cosmic order, continuity and the cycle of life. This piece references the original Sun Disc from the Treasure of Kroisos, the Lydian king renowned for his extraordinary wealth. Created in dialogue with CI21’s Focus Asia, this piece looks to Anatolia as a historic meeting ground between East and West, and to the symbols shaped by the cultures that met there. At the heart of the design, the interrobang is reimagined where question meets affirmation. In D’Evin’s interpretation, the Sun Disc speaks of strength held in balance, with energy radiating from its centre. D’Evin uses a single wing rather than the complete form.
