Interview
Gentleman
March 2026
Evin Tümay tells Gentleman how corporate experience gave way to entrepreneurship, how emotion becomes form, and why D’Evin regards jewellery as genderless as a work of art.

“Jewellery, like a work of art, has no gender.”
From the interview
01
How did your journey from corporate life to entrepreneurship develop? When did the idea of a jewellery house emerge?
Leaving corporate life was a decision I needed to make for a healthier balance between work and the rest of my life. I then began consulting in strategic planning and business optimisation within finance. Working independently gave me room to rediscover myself and to develop new ideas. During a trip abroad centred on art and lifestyle, I thought of bringing my design ability together with the jewellery I had always loved. The moment I realised that those design instincts were still strong, I found the courage to bring D’Evin to life.
02
How does your design process unfold, from the first idea to a finished jewel?
There is always an emotion beneath every design idea. When I take up pencil and paper and begin to give that emotion a tangible form, a small journey of discovery starts. At some point colour, form and texture fall into harmony. Once that happens, the number of colours or the degree of ornament no longer matters. A composition has emerged, a complete expression with a language of its own.
03
What guides your choice of materials and stones?
It is shaped entirely by the emotion I want to convey. In the Khan bracelet, for example, I used lapis, onyx and diamond. Lapis represents leadership, onyx freedom from ego, and diamond presence. I chose rose gold for its associations with royalty and rank. Wholeness is another example: its form comes from the square. Some of the earliest settlements that can be called cities were in Anatolia, where the square was used often because it is structurally strong and balanced.
04
What is the philosophy that distinguishes D’Evin Jewellery?
For D’Evin, jewellery is rooted in emotion rather than gender. Like a work of art, it has no gender. The person who feels and identifies most deeply with the emotion in a jewel is the person who will wear it best. From that perspective, D’Evin focuses on removing the invisible conventions that have surrounded men’s jewellery for years.
05
Which moment or design has made you proudest so far?
My proudest moment after bringing D’Evin to life was telling the house’s story at the launch. The piece that excited me most during its creation was the Winged Seahorse Brooch. Its priceless solid-gold original belongs to the Karun Treasure, the greatest hoard yet discovered in Anatolia. I redesigned that historic jewel through a contemporary and personal lens.
