From the interview
01
You worked in finance for many years before founding D’Evin. How did that transition unfold, and why did you choose men’s jewellery?
During my career in finance I worked on strategic planning and business optimisation at banks and international consultancies. I built and led teams and developed new areas of business. D’Evin emerged where that experience met my undergraduate and postgraduate education in design and my passion for jewellery. Historically, jewellery represented male power and splendour for a very long time. It later became associated predominantly with women, while men’s jewellery was confined to a narrow range of materials and forms. D’Evin sets out to break down those barriers.
02
What philosophy guides the house and the collection? How would you describe D’Evin’s character?
Strength is at the centre of D’Evin. I am interested in strength once it has matured and become a value, rather than in its uncontrolled or destructive form. I focus on feelings such as gentility, fellowship, solidarity and leadership, values that form part of our culture and have passed between generations. In D’Evin’s designs they appear as precise finishes and elegant yet masculine detail. Every choice, from story and stone to stylisation, refers back to them.
03
How does your bond with Anatolia’s cultural values appear in individual pieces?
Making that connection and bringing our cultural values into view has become a personal mission. It feels like something I owe to this remarkable land. Many ancient jewels discovered here inspired iconic pieces by internationally known houses. I care about keeping that historical line intact and referring back to the original stories. The Karun Sun Disc brooches and bracelets, as well as the Winged Seahorse Brooch, draw on the Karun Treasure.
04
How can D’Evin pieces be styled? What advice would you give men who want to wear more jewellery?
A brooch placed on the collar of a firm, high-necked shirt is an unexpected choice and creates a striking effect. Brooches make occasion dressing and a high level of polish surprisingly easy. To me, the brooch is the most intellectual and emotionally charged category of jewellery. A necklace and ring carrying the same figure can create a complete look from day to evening, while the more expressive pieces are particularly elegant and powerful with a dinner suit.
05
What are your ambitions for D’Evin?
Personal Bespoke design matters greatly to me. It will always remain part of the house and I see it as one of our defining strengths. The exchange between designer and wearer enriches both the story and the jewel itself. D’Evin will continue as a boutique, premium house, with the ambition to meet jewellery collectors abroad when the time is right.
